Laugh with the Moon (MG)

Laugh with the Moon. Shana Burg. 2012. Random House. 256 pages.

I press my nose against the airplane window and breathe faster, faster, more, more, more. I try to erase what's outside.

Clare Silver did NOT want to go to Africa with her father. She was barely coping with her life to begin with. She needs her friends, her school, her home to stay as close as possible to what they were before...before her mom died. But her father volunteered his services to the Global Health Project, and now father and daughter are adjusting to life in Malawi. (He's excited and committed.) Clare will be attending a local village school, wearing a school uniform, and learning a foreign language. She does make friends with a girl named Memory, and soon she starts liking a few others. But it isn't until she starts teaching English to the youngest students that she begins to feel like her life has meaning again...but life isn't without its great challenges. And Clare will be tested again and again...
